Although I live and work in Virginia, sometimes I walk into a venue and feel as if I have been transported to a completely different country! It’s as if I am shooting at a destination wedding, instead of in my home state. That’s exactly how I felt when I photographed Lauren and Drew’s Morais Vineyards Wedding. The beautiful architecture feels like it is straight out of Portugal! I don’t have to wait for my next destination wedding to get a piece of history and travel. (Although, now that I am a destination photographer, I certainly wouldn’t mind having Portugal be my next wedding location!)
On their wedding day, the weather fluctuated between beautifully sunny and great temps, to being moody and calling for a chance of rain. The rain came off and on throughout the day. However, lucky for us, it seemed to be timed perfectly for portraits! We started inside for the bridal portraits, which turned out just fine. Morais’ Bridal Suite is stunning inside, so I was really excited to use the space. Lauren looked like a true European goddess with her gold crown and flowing florals. I could have sworn she had stepped right out of a movie!
When the rain paused for a bit, we headed back outside to finish up bridal portraits. Lauren’s First Look with her dad also took place at this time. This moment is always so special and precious to witness, and Lauren and her father were no exception.
Because of the impending rain, the ceremony had been set up inside. They made the right call, because it poured outside during the ceremony! It was such a sweet, beautiful ceremony, and it felt intimate being indoors. One of my favorite moments from the day was seeing Lauren and Drew’s precious daughter, Ellie. She rode down the aisle in her very own pink wagon. I just about died seeing her precious little face riding in that wagon to watch her mom and dad get married!
After the ceremony was over, I was able to capture family portraits inside. The rain stopped just in time for bridal party portraits and of course, my favorite – portraits of just the two of them. The vineyard was alive and green, and looking so fresh after all that rain! It was the perfect backdrop to their romantic portraits.
