Amber and Jeff’s Great Marsh Estate Wedding was truly a wedding fairy-tale come true! With beautiful weather and hopeless romantics, these two had a beautiful day.
Jeff and Amber have the cutest college “How We Met” story ever! They both worked at the computing help desk at James Madison University. Jeff likes to say they “were resetting passwords and falling in love.” They were friends for a few years before they started dating their senior year. Jeff, as romantic then as he is now, asked Amber to be his girlfriend by writing a poem for her. He ended it with a “Check Yes or No” box!
Naturally, he had to top that when he decided to ask Amber to be his wife. He tricked Amber into dressing up by telling her he had just bought a new suit that he was dying to wear out. Jeff had their “fancy date day” all planned out. From a couple’s massage and a brewery, to a boat ride across the San Francisco Bay and a steak dinner, he completely surprised her from beginning to end. As the night sky lit up with a light show under the Bay Bridge, he knelt and asked Amber the question that led them to the most important day of their lives! And naturally, Amber said YES!
When Amber went dress shopping, she thought she knew what she wanted. But instead, everything just felt like a “pretty” dress, and not her wedding dress. Finally, her bridal consultant asked her to try something a little bit different. When Amber slipped it on, she started to cry, thinking how much Jeff was going to love it. That’s how she knew it was the one!
There were so many sweet touches and details scattered throughout their wedding day. One of my favorites, however, were the walkie-talkies that Amber and Jeff had! One for each of them – appropriately dressed in wedding attire to differentiate whose was whose! They were so adorable! Even though they chose not to see each other before the ceremony, they held hands around a door and had an intimate moment together. Amber did, however, decide to have a First Look with her dad! She printed out a photo from when she was 3 years old, in which she was playing dress-up with a veil and bouquet. She wanted to recreate the photo with her dad all these years later.
Because they live on the West Coast and got married in Virginia, Amber and Jeff had to leave their beloved pups at home. To include them while they were away, they had a custom cake topper made of their dogs, and Jeff had a puppy paw print liner sewn into his suit.
Amber’s grandma was not in physical attendance at the wedding, but Amber made sure she was there in spirit. On her bouquet was a small charm with a photo of her Grandma and the inscription, “I love you – Grandma Pat.”
Another favorite moment from this amazing day was Amber and Jeff’s first dance! They had their DJ custom mix a song. The first half was “Speechless” by Dan and Shay. They picked this particular song because they felt it perfectly captured all the feelings of seeing each other walk down the aisle on their wedding day. The second half of their song was “24k Magic” by Bruno Mars. These two had been secretly taking hip hop lessons!! (see, I told you they were amazing!!), and surprised everyone out on the dance floor!
I even got to steal these two away for a few minutes during dancing for a few more couple’s photos. I love giving my couples a chance to soak it all in one last time before the night is over. These portraits almost always end up being my favorite!
